Nice taste -- we read several of the same books this year.
Here's a recommendation: Besides writing classic children's books (Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, the Witches, etc.), Roald Dahl also wrote books for adults. And they're good.
I recommend his autobiographies ("Boy" and "Flying Solo") and his short stories for adults, which are available in "The Best of Roald Dahl."
